With the temperature wavering between the warmth of summer and the first chills of winter (on top of frequent rain showers 💦💦💦), fall season is officially here. While you may still be singing along to the biggest hits of summer (shout out to "Boy With Luv"), there is nothing better than prepping for the season with an autumn-inspired playlist.
Here are some of our personal (and also some of your faves) fall-focused songs to help get you in the mood for sweater weather, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, beautiful foliage, and days getting shorter.
Roy Kim | “When Autumn Comes”
Why not start this list with a song titled “When Autumn Comes?” Lilting in its delicate nature, Kim’s song of longing paints a picture of sitting amid the colorful leaves of autumn with the someone special. It’s a refreshing tune that describes the various things people face in the wake of autumn and Roy Kim’s wish for how he’d like to spend the season. Perhaps now’s the time to get your own autumn to do list going. 📋📋📋
Crush | “Fall”
The R&B crooner’s jazzy tune relays the feelings of autumn succinctly, while using it as a metaphor for an ended relationship, portraying the season as a time when the warmth of the past lingers and the cold future is daunting. 💘💘💘
Akdong Musician (AKMU) | “Fallen Leaves”
After a long hiatus, Akdong Musician released this beautiful song describing the passing of time. The invigorating strings lead the song’s fall-like tone as the melody sweeps and drops, much like the fluctuating temperature as the warmth of summer fades. ⛅⛅⛅
IU | “Autumn Morning”
This IU's sentimental tone goes almost entirely unaccompanied, while she sings this cover about the delight of waking up on a crisp fall morning. 🍂🍃🍂
Park Hyo Shin | “Wildflower”
In what is perhaps the song that defines Park Hyo Shin’s career, “Wildflower” is a beautiful ballad that captures the seasons. Just like the seasons, love may come and go. 💔💔💔
Yang Yoseob | “Caffeine”
You know what's another great thing about fall? The fall coffee menu at your fave local cafe. Fall is the perfect time to get a warm cup of tea or a seasonal pumpkin spice/cinnamon/peppermint mocha/chai tea latte while sitting outside in the cool weather watching the leaves fall. ☕☕☕
Davichi | “Autumn Night”
The softer side of the season is audible in the melancholy, dulcet tones of Davichi as they sing about past romances that, like the summer, are something of the past now. 💖
BIGBANG | “Let’s Not Fall in Love”
Another great thing about fall? LAYERS! Forget skimpy tank tops and short shorts; sweater weather is where it’s at. A group that always looked good bundled up in cozy-looking clothes? BIGBANG. The vocals here are as crisp as autumn leaves and GD surely looks beyond cute in his sweater. 😍😍😍 (FUN FACT: This was the first song from BIGBANG that I listened to and I fell in love with GD right after seeing him in the MV.)
BTS | “Autumn Leaves”
Ominous in its layered synths, BTS’ “Autumn Leaves,” also known as "Dead Leaves," evokes the feel of the change of seasons in its bleakness, though bright moments of vocal ad-libs hint to the more delightful sides of the creeping weather. 🎃🎃🎃
One Way | “Rainy Days”
Metro Vancouver area is (in)famous for many things and one of them is, you guessed it, R A I N! On the bright side, it’s on those rainy days that we have an opportunity to stay in, slow down and reminiscent about past. One Way’s “Rainy Days” has a mix of voices befitting the mixed colors of fall, with the sound of rain falling at the beginning. It’s a wonderful track from the famous producers. 💧💧💧
Crucial Star + Kim Na Young | “Fall”
Crucial Star and Kim Na Young’s gentle duet is a mellifluous take on the neither here nor there feelings of autumn, and equating romance with the dead leaves of the season. 🍂🍂🍂
Kyuhyun | “Autumn Sleeves”
In my opinion every song off of the Super Junior member's Fall, Once Again album should be on everyone's autumnal playlist, but this mellow tune and its sweater-warm smooth tones evokes the fall time the most. 💙💙💙
Zia + Hong Dae Kwang | "Nostalgic Autumn"
Despite expressing the loneliness that sometimes accompanies the season as the days get shorter, the playful soft pop melody of “Nostalgic Autumn” is more upbeat than the lyrics would suggest as if the song is about the ups and downs of the season. 🌂🌂🌂
K.Will | “Hello Autumn”
This soaring tune is filled with earnestness, as the balladeer greets the season with the song's building sound, evoking the whirlwind of feelings and weather that join together to create this thing we call “fall.” 😊😊😊
