And now back to Changmo.
Ku Chang-mo (구창모), better known by the mononym Changmo (창모), is a South Korean rapper and producer. He released his debut album M O T O W N on March 18, 2016. This album was produced, mixed and mastered all by Changmo himself.
After that, in October 2016, Changmo joined Dok2 and The Quiett’s sub-label, Ambition Musik. For those who have no idea what Ambition Musik is, it is a South Korean music record label under ILLIONAIRE RECORDS. And Changmo is one of the first three rappers (including rapper Kim Hyo-eun and Hash Swan) that Ambition Musik brought on board upon its inception.
Changmo has been nominated for the 2017 BET Awards. He has been nominated in the category of Best International Viewers Choice alongside other nominees such as Jorja Smith (U.K.), Dave (U.K.), Amanda Black (South Africa), Ray Vanny (Tanzania), Daniel Caesar (Canada), Remi (Australia), and Skip Marley (Jamaica).
Changmo was a member of the group AboutU (어바우츄), a South Korean indie band that debuted on February 24th, 2018. They released one EP. One of their songs from this EP is YesterLove. In AboutU, Changmo performed as a bassist and a keyboardist.
Before Changmo debuted with M O T O W N, he released a mini album under the label Luminant Entertainment and Deoksokids. The title of the album is Time To Earn Money 2 and it was released on July 21st, 2016. So, basically this album can be considered Changmo's debut too but under a different music label. It represents a continuation of his 2013 mixtape titled Time To Earn Money, which is a combination of old-school music and modern hip-hop.
In 2017, Changmo collaborated with Hyolyn, a former member of SISTAR. This collab resulted in the Blue Moon track and it was released on April 14th, 2017. Changmo, who back then was still labelled as a rookie, proved his skills in producing quality music as this duet made instant waves upon release.
Beside his collab with Hyolyn, Changmo also partnered up with R&B vocalist Suran and BTS’ Suga. The song that was the result of this collab is titled Wine. Wine it is a hip-hop R&B track mixed with pop groove and futuristic base performed by Suran and Changmo and produced by Suga.
Changmo participated in the third season of Show Me The Money but did not make it passed the third round. Show Me The Money is a South Korean rap competition TV show by Mnet that is credited with growing interest in the hip-hop genre among South Koreans. The winner of the show receives one hundred million won as a prize.
(Fun Fact: We play the biggest Show Me The Money tracks at Venue's DARK ROOM each Soju Sunday)
Changmo appeared as a guest on MBC FM4U radio program Kim Shin Young's Noon Song of Hope. Talking about the topic of Changmo's recent collab with Kim Chung Ha, he was asked what other artists he wanted to collaborate with besides Chung Ha. Changmo named Crown J but when he was pressed on to talk about K-Pop girl groups in particular, he answered laughing: "Red Velvet. I want to work with Joy." He then added on, "I really wanted Red Velvet's new song to take 1st place, more than my song. Even just being on the same chart as them makes me a successful fan."
